  • Notes
    • 1 - The original charters of Lachope were lost when the house was burned in 1570 in retaliation for shelter given by Muirhead to brother-in-law, James Hamilton of Bothwellhaugh, after his assassination of the Regent Moray.

2 - Lauchope House, a tower house noted for its extremely thick walls, gave refuge to Hamilton of Bothwellhaugh, brother of Janet Hamilton, wife of James Muirhead, of Lauchope[1510- ?], as Hamilton fled after slaying the Regent of Scotland, the Earl of Moray, half-brother of Mary, Queen of Scots, in 1570 at Linlithgow. The House was set ablaze by those who sought to revenge the killing of the Regent and many important papers were lost in the blaze.
In 1799, part of the house fell, and in 1956, the present owners, the Roberton family, one of the oldest, untitled families in Lanarkshire, had the property demolished.

I sent the following email via Wiki Tree to Susan Shirey:

    .
My mom was born with the maiden surname Morehead which was probably spelled Muirhead long ago, maybe in the 1700's and before that, like 200 years ago or more in Scotland and also maybe Ireland.
    .
My maternal grandpa was Richard Morehead, born 1927 in the United States. I have followed the family tree trail down to the 1500's now. My mother said she may not be totally sure who her great or great great or great great grandpa is exactly.
    .
We are fairly confident of our Morehead line back a few generations into the 1800's but we are not too sure if our tree is definitely connected to the other trees of the other Morehead relatives from the 1700's and before that.
    .
I am partly guessing and assuming the connections for anybody during or before the 1700's for the Morehead / Muirhead family tree line.
    .
I am looking for Morehead descendants and others who can me develop my Morehead tree more.
